Advanced Operation and Control of an Industrial Ethylene Oxide Reactor
This project is focused on developing and applying dynamic simulation models to optimize the performance of an industrial EO reactor. The set of nonlinear kinetic rates of the oxidation of ethylene over silver catalyst in the presence of EDC as a moderator is coupled with heat and mass transfer and physical properties along the bed. Computation fluid dynamic model is used to solve the governing equations for the shell side fluid flow and heat transfer. The models will be used to predict internal hot spots, reactor runaway conditions and asymptotic behavior in the reactor. The integrated models, dynamically linking the tube-side and shell-side transport processes, will be used to develop a control scheme to ensure optimised performance of the reactor.
