Model-based Integrated Framework for Process Simulation, Optimisation and Control of a Continuous Digester Area
|
In order to attain environmental constraints and reduce operational costs, today's state-of-the-art-pulp
and paper industry relies on highly integrated processes that make operation and control non-trivial and
non-intuitive tasks.
This thesis aims to develop and implement a decision support framework for a series
of process equipment generally recognized as the "heart" of a Kraft pulp and paper mill, namely, the
continuous digester and associated feed line and heat exchange-recovery system. This Integrated Decision
Support System (IDSS) exploits the benefits of a model-based paradigm for total simulation, optimisation
and control, and it constitutes a bridge between two strategic components of a Process Industry: the
decision makers and the process itself.
